Meet Roberta
Mental Health Counselor and Trauma Specialist
Counselor for Children, Teens, Adults, Couples and Older Adults in Charlotte and Belmont
I approach all clients with empathy and kindness.
While I am a Christian counselor, I only integrate faith at client request and I am no one’s judge. I believe my faith helps me approach others with love and encouragement. The name of my practice says it all … Grace.
As a licensed educator in North and South Carolina, with experience teaching in public and private schools, secular and Christian, college and secondary, and traditional and alternative educational settings, I have a unique perspective on and experience with approaching and remedying learning and behavioral difficulties. I also am well acquainted with the academic and social stresses students face from standardized testing, including the ACT and SAT, college applications and selecting a university or training program.
I enjoy working with children, adolescents and teens, using a variety of methods including art and play therapy. I am well versed in the issues of video games, social media, online vice and cyber bullying.
As a former journalist, I enjoy counseling law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other rescue personnel.
Having been on the scenes of innumerable murders, fatal car accidents, suicides, live shooter situations – including officer shootings – fires, etc., I have a unique perspective on the stressors our public servants face on the job and at home and the cumulative effects of trauma.
I have completed specialized training through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, FEMA and other agencies for providing therapy to this specialized community.
I also am a certified compassion fatigue educator and therapist.

Couples therapy also is a passion of mine.
I believe our culture does an extremely poor job of preparing people for the marathon that is marriage and long-term commitment. Partners typically have an unrealistic and highly romanticized vision of marriage and most of us have poor models for what marriage looks like and operates and the importance of sexuality and communication. With effort, education practice and communication, every committed relationship can be great. Really.
My master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Regent University is instrumental in my ability to help others. But it has also ministered to me in my own life, family and relationship in ways I could have never imagined.
